The first three episodes of this sequential were edited together because the 1955 picture Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, also rebroadcast in color. The series and film are known for its catchy theme song,"The Ballad of Davy Crockett". It was filmed in color at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the Mountain Farm Museum at Oconaluftee close the entrance of Qualla Reservation and Janss Conejo Ranch, California.
The last two episodes were edited as the 1956 theatrical film Davy Crockett and the River Pirates. It was filmed in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois.
September 7, 2004 walt Disney Home Video released a two-film set of this mini series on DVD.
