Macross Plus can be theatrical movie and actually a four-episode anime OVA from the Macross series. This had been the first sequel to the first Macross tv series that took place in the official timeline. Plus proved to be a groundbreaking mix of traditional cel and computer-generated animation at the time of its release, paving the way for the incorporation of imagery from Japanese scrapbooking.
Both movie and the OVA series were published in Japan by Bandai Visual and in the United States and Europe from Manga Entertainment. Manga Entertainment and the DVD version released the Australian VHS variation by Madman Entertainment under sub-license in Manga Entertainment. It comprises a couple mecha designs inspired by the series.
