Late 1700s, france. Leon Dalville is just really a priest with it all - good looks, wealth and love. One nighttime that is mystifying , but he loses everything. His young wife passes off in a passion and the prince's face is marred. He wears a mask which just partially covers his face, turning him in to a barbarous and mysterious man who's tormented by his own past and hated and dreaded by all to cover his disfigurement. Bella Dubois concerns Leon's castle to provide her services to pay the debts her father has with the prince back. Leon's cousin Helene, who has always been in love , challenges the prince. But, despite the cruel and deceptive tricks of Helene, Leon falls in love.
