Rheinhardt, a cynical drifter, gets a job as an announcer at right-wing radio station WUSA in New Orleans. Even though Rheinhardt doesn't agree with WUSA's editorial position, he is happy to repeat it on the air. Rheinhardt's cynicism is tested by his friend Geraldine and by Rainey, a troubled idealist who lives next door and finds out about WUSA's dark, hidden goal. And when things get out of hand, even Rheinhardt has to stand up for himself.
