The Stranger
After we are gone, what exactly do people remember folks? Neal MacGregor, a British artist, died alone, ironically, aged 44, at a stone hen-house that he couldn't stand up in, where he lived on a remote island without water, electricity or heating. The islanders on the fast depopulating islandknew little of Neal during the years he lived there. Who was Stranger? Can he be a spy record IRA paths, as some islanders thought? Was he trying to take control of the staircase? As many others thought was he crazy? Or was he seeking privacy? Neal left behind volumes of attractively exemplified note books and secret diaries, and this gorgeous enigmatic film pulls together the thought of missing pieces, along with sensitively paints a portrait of a guy, living on the edge, physically and mentally, along with the neighboring island community he lived amongst.
