In the wake of the Spanish Civil War, Ana, a sensitive seven-year-old girl in a gigantic Spanish hamlet is traumatized after a traveling projectionist screens a print of James Whale's 1931"Frankenstein" to the village. The youngster is deeply disturbed by the scenes where the small girl is murdered by the creature and can be murdered himself by the villagers. She questions her husband and thinks her older sister when she informs her that the creature is not dead, but is present as a spirit inhabiting a barn. Ana crosses from reality, when a nurse from Franco's victorious army, a Loyalist soldier, hides from the barn.
