The Catalan collective La Fura dels Baus presents Kurt Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at the Teatro Real de Madrid. Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht wrote this mordant parody on capitalism and the relentless industrialisation of a society in which not having money is the ultimate guilt. In twenty scenes, the authors relate the narrative of Mahagonny, a city governed by three thugs where food, sex, gambling, and violence reign supreme.
