This is an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion," in which the genders of the main characters have been switched. Hannah Higgins tries to make Elliot Doolittle, a blue-collar Boston beer vendor, into a viable candidate for the Democratic nomination, and in the process, she learns a little about Elliot's side of life.
