The Last Days on Mars

On the day of this first manned mission to Mars, a crew person in Tantalus Base considers he's made an astonishing discovery signs of bacterial life. Unwilling to allow all of the glory is claimed by the relief crew, he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an expedition that is unmanned to collect samples. However when the porous earth collapses a regular excavation turns to tragedy and he drops into a deep crevice and close certain death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. When a person vanishes, they start to assume that is not without danger.
