The mighty Khan of the Jurchen tribe in Manchuria, who battles the Ming dynasty for control of China, establishes the Qing dynasty and demands that King In-jo of Joseon submit to him; but he refuses, remaining loyal to the Mings. On December 14th,1636, the Qing army invades Joseon, and King In-jo and his court take refuge in the Namhan mountain castle, preparing to defend the kingdom.
