A group of high school friends are excited for the start of summer. They include Kenny Leeds, Mike Decker and Tommy Kingsley. His friends aren't there, and he's sent to stay with his grandparents in Buffalo while his father, a widowed salesman, goes on a business trip with his secretary-fiancée. Kenny is bored and alone in a new city, so he writes letters to his two friends about what he did at "Rosie's," a fictitious brothel across the border in Niagara Falls, New York.
