Senior partner Victor Sandeman is a member of Brunel Global Securities' board of directors. He's in deep trouble financially, but the anticipated $100 million merger of the company could help him out. Owner Raymond Brunel, on the other hand, is opposed to the combination. For the sake of the planned merger, Victor murders Raymond (in an attempt to make it look like he died of natural causes) so that he may get rid of David Brunel, Raymond's grandson and the company's heir apparent. Victor is compelled to identify himself to Christine as Raymond Brunel when they meet in a fender bender shortly after Raymond's murder.
