The psychotherapist Larry Livingstone is ready for a fresh commitment three years after his divorce from his model wife. The young widow Beth, with two children, becomes the object of his affections. The problem is that Beth and the children are still in sorrow over the deaths of their husband and father, and Larry has a tough time breaking through their defenses. For his part, Larry has to deal with his ex-wife, as well as his feelings for his own children, who are both adopted. Beth and the children gradually come to the realization that they must move on with their lives and that they have been given a second opportunity at redemption.
