Royal Opera House: Madama Butterfly

Cio-Cio-San, the young Japanese bride of dashing American officer Lieutenant Pinkerton, has her romantic idyll destroyed. She hopes he returns one day. Three years later, Cio-Cio-San and her son see Pinkerton's ship. Pinkerton and his American wife Kate have arrived to take the boy away, to raise him in America. Cio-Cio-San leaves her son and then kills herself.
