In the near future, chaos and revolt break out in France. Philippe Muphand, a right-wing politician, is about to take over when his girlfriend Caroline walks out and says she will date the first fool she sees. Serge Laine, a professor and the author of the award-winning book "Le voyage qui ne finit pas," is the fool. He is going to the train station to buy tickets to Barcelona, where he and his wife will have a second honeymoon and he will give a lecture at the university. Serge falls in love with Caroline, and he soon gives up his wife, family, job, and honesty to be with Caroline, read Jack London, and kill.
