Mankind is on the edge of extinction 15 years after a global cataclysm. Food is scarce, and most people eke out a livelihood by stealing and killing. One boy survives in the bleak British countryside by staying away from others. When he crosses up with another group of survivors and faces an enemy far more terrible than any of them could fathom, his self-imposed solitude comes to a sudden end.
