Herb's life has turned into a shambles. He's lost his welfare, can't find work, can't communicate with his son, has a noisy neighbor, and a diet consisting primarily of cheap beer and mushy peas. But when he meets a sweet local barmaid and a devoted stray dog that won't leave his side, he begins to doubt if prison is indeed his only option for a happy life.
