Messina, Sicily, is one of the wealthiest cities in the Mediterranean at Christmastime in 1908. At just 13 years of age, Peter is renowned for abusing children, animals, and even employees in his wealthy English home. One night, he is ambushed and finds himself in a coffin in the city's Gothic cemetery, where a servant boy from his mother's estate has buried him as a punishment for his callousness. Peter is buried beneath the rubble of Messina after a devastating earthquake destroys the city. As far back as a century, a British archeologist and his daughter arrived in this place to do research.
