The true story of young German-Jewish painter Charlotte Salomon, who grows up in Berlin just before World War II. She aspires to be an artist because of her strong sense of imagination and natural talent. With his encouragement, her resolve grows stronger. She flees to the south of France when anti-Semitic policies incite violent riots. To her surprise, she finds herself painting again and falling in love.
