Bang the Drum Slowly

The story of a pro baseball team in New York and two of its players. Henry Wiggen is the team's great pitcher, while Bruce Pearson is the team's everyday catcher who is far from the team's best player and a friend to everyone on the squad. Bruce discovers during the off-season that he is terminally ill, and Henry, his sole genuine friend, vows to be there for him for his final season with the club. Henry and his teammates attempt to deal with Bruce's looming illness during the season, while also attempting to make his final year memorable.
