How can buildings that occupy defined, rigid areas of space elicit feelings of transcendence? How can chapels become sanctuaries of contemplation? How are barriers capable of granting limitless freedom? Motivated by vivid childhood memories, filmmaker Christoph Schaub travels to astonishing cathedrals, both old and future, and encounters pieces of art that transport him to the skies and all the way to the bottom of the ocean. Using the seemingly abstract concepts of light, time, rhythm, sound, and shape, he attempts to make sense of the world and decipher our spiritual experiences with the assistance of architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli, and lvaro Siza Vieira, artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, and drummer Sergé "Jojo" Mayer. The breathtaking cinematography elevates this meditative journey to a multisensory experience.
