Mikami, a middle-aged ex-yakuza who has spent most of his life in prison for murder, gets out after serving 13 years. He wants to find his mother, who left him when he was a child, so he applies for a TV show and meets Tsunoda, a young TV director. In the meantime, he struggles to find a good job and fit in with the rest of society. His quick temper, stubbornness, and strong beliefs make it hard for Tsunoda and others who want to help him to get along with him.
