Veronika and Boris come in Moscow shortly before World War II. They see cranes promise, and fly overhead to rendezvous until Boris leaves to fight. Boris overlooks the assembly and is off into the leading lines, while Veronika waits sending letters. After her residence is murdered, Veronika moves in using Boris' family, in the company of a cousin using their intentions.
