For a long time, old woodcarver Mr. Meacham has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon which resides deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. For his daughter, Grace, that works as a forest ranger, these stories are barely more than tall tales... until she meets Pete, a mystical 10-year-old with no family and no home that claims to reside in the forests with a huge, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete's descriptions, the Elliott seems remarkably just like the dragon from Mr. Meacham's stories. With the aid of Natalie, an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack owns the local lumber mill, and Grace sets out to figure out where Pete originated from, the truth about this particular dragon, and where he belongs.
