Henri La Tour, a stroller, is an explorer. So, when King Louis XV awards Henri a title for a spectacular performance, the Duke of Saint-Sever takes offense and challenges him to a fight. While they battle, Austrian soldiers appear and the two adversaries join to defeat their enemies. Unfortunately, Saint-Sever is severely wounded, and he begs his new companion to protect Toinon, his natural daughter, whose life is threatened.
