When Amanda McCready vanishes from her house and the police make little headway in solving the situation, the uncle of the girl, Beatrice McCready hires two detectives, Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro. Even the detectives admit that they will have experience but the family would like them for two reasons - they aren't cops and so they understand that the neighborhood in that they all live. Kenzie and Gennaro face gangs, drug dealers and pedophiles as the case progresses. If they are about to address the instance, they have been faced with a moral dilemma that tears them apart.
