Brian, a lovable weirdo, is solitary and lives in a valley in Wales, where he comes up with bizarre contraptions that only occasionally succeed. Following the discovery of an abandoned mannequin head, Brian has an idea. After three days, a washing machine, and several spare components, he created Charles, an artificially intelligent robot who learns English from a dictionary and proves to be a lovely and cheeky companion. Charles was named after Charles Dickens, who gave the name to his creation. In a short period of time, Charles, too, comes into his own as an independent individual. Charles, who has been stashed away by Brian, has a strong desire to go on adventures because he is curious about the larger world and whatever lies outside the cottage where he has been kept.
